Kia Seltos vs Hyundai Creta (2026) — Which One Should You Buy?

Seven years ago I wrote the first version of this comparison when the Seltos was brand new and the Creta was the undisputed king of this segment. A lot has changed. Both cars have had full generational updates, prices have moved, and the segment itself has become far more competitive with the Tata Sierra, Maruti Victoris, and Grand Vitara all eating into their sales. Time to settle this properly — with 2026 specs, current prices, and a verdict from someone who drives Pune roads every day. PRICES Base: Seltos ₹10.99L | Creta ₹10.79L Top: Seltos ₹19.99L | Creta ₹20.19L The Creta got a price cut of up to ₹72,000 after the GST revision in September 2025. Kia responded with aggressive pricing on the new Seltos. For most buyers the decision won't come down to price. ENGINES & REAL-WORLD MILEAGE Both share a 1.5L NA petrol (115 bhp / 144 Nm), 1.5L turbo petrol (160 bhp / 253 Nm, DCT), and 1.5L diesel (~115 bhp / 250 Nm). City mileage (turbo petrol): 10–12 kmpl for both. Highway mileage (diesel): Creta edges ahead at 19–21 kmpl vs 18+ for the Seltos. RIDE QUALITY — this is where they differ most The Creta is tuned softer — it absorbs potholes better at low speeds. Better for city driving in areas like Hadapsar, Kothrud, or near any construction zone. The Seltos 2026 has improved with new frequency-selective dampers and settles beautifully above 60 km/h. Better on the Pune–Mumbai Expressway or Pune–Nashik highway. Firmer in slow city traffic. FEATURES (at comparable variants) - Display: Seltos has dual 12.3" panoramic panel | Creta has dual 10.25" displays - Sunroof: Seltos dual-pane panoramic | Creta single panoramic - Sound: Both get 8-speaker Bose - ADAS: Seltos Level 2+ | Creta Level 2 - Boot: Seltos 447L | Creta 433L - Airbags: Both 6 standard SIZE Seltos: 4,460 mm length, 1,830 mm width, 2,690 mm wheelbase Creta: 4,330 mm length — 130 mm shorter, easier to park in Pune THE PUNE VERDICT Buy the Seltos if: You do regular highway runs, want the most features for money, carry family and need the extra boot space. Turbo petrol + DCT is fun on open roads. Buy the Creta if: Your driving is mostly inside Pune. Softer suspension handles broken roads better. Easier to park. Hyundai service network in Pune is dense. Diesel manual is the sweet spot. My honest pick for Pune: Creta SX diesel automatic for most buyers. Better on broken city roads, stronger resale value, easier service access. If you're buying turbo petrol and do highway trips twice a month, flip to the Seltos HTX. Prices are ex-showroom as of April 2026. Real-world mileage based on Pune city and expressway conditions.
